Parker Middle School visited the Tanque school right outside of La Fortuna. CRA formed a relationship with a local English teacher, Karla last year on a Community Service project in a near-by school. Karla contacted Brian at the beginning of the year to let him know that she was working at a new school that was willing to collaborate inter-cultural days with traveling students. Shortly after, Brian received a call from the parent board of directors, Johanna who was thrilled at the opportunity as well.
On Sunday, April 17th 2011 CRA sent our second group of the year to Escuela Tanque and it left a huge impact on the local students and the Parker students. The day started out with a tour of the school given by 10 year old student, Eva Luna. Then a getting to know you game where students from Tanque and Parker were paired up and asked each other questions about life and school and friends. Then games and lunch. From there a Community Service project where Parker and Tanque students worked together to paint two classrooms successfully and beautifully. And we finished off this meaningful day with a Cultural dance from the Tanque students and more games. In the end, this day was an inspiration for all and a token to the beauty of learning about another’s culture and making new friends.
