Rainforest hike and Community lunch
The Tawonga group had the opportunity to hike into Melleruk. The hike was through secondary and primary lowland tropical rainforest. Stunning views and deep forest. We hiked with Ezequiel and Don Albino and they shared their knowledge along the way. Don Albino was kind enough to invite us to his Rancho (Traditional Indigenous home with a thatch roof). There Don Albino talked about the Indigenous culture and his life growing up all to way to the present time. The Tawonga students had a chance to ask really good questions. It was a moving experience that opened new perspectives.
The hike ended at the Melleruk school where we have been working. We were welcomed by the local village. They cooked a traditional meal for us and everyone shared food together in the new thatch roof community center that was recently built.
